《The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria》跟隨著矮人族展開奪回迷霧山脈 (Misty Mountains) 下的傳奇家鄉摩瑞亞 (Moria) 的冒險之旅。玩家將加入團隊之中，一起生存、打造、建造和探索經典的龐大礦道。神秘未知的危險潛伏在旅途中，獨具勇氣的遠征者們必須提高警戒。
玩家在 Lord Gimli Lockbearer 的召喚下來到迷霧山脈，控制一群肩負奪回家鄉摩瑞亞使命的矮人族（他們的家鄉又稱凱薩督姆 Khazad-dûm 或 Dwarrowdelf），深入探索腳下的每一呎。為了完成任務，他們需要過人的毅力，深入摩瑞亞礦坑 (Mines of Moria) 以取回其中的寶物。
